As part of the Education, Citizenship, and development program component, the One Student, One Computer project collects donations of school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, and schoolbags), as well as computers and tablets, to distribute to students. This project, which will be ongoing, aims to support students and promote their academic success by giving them the tools they need to thrive in school. So far, the program has distributed supplies and computers to schools in Porokhane and Kaolack.
Education is a powerful lever for development. For children and youth to get the most out of their education, however, they need adequate school supplies. In Senegal, a large majority of students lack access to well-funded and well-equipped schools or even the most basic supplies to facilitate their studies. Optimizing students’ education — in part by providing these resources — will prepare them to seize promising job prospects or create their own opportunities, and in the long term to become model, committed citizens.
